Cricket Blast is Cricket Australia’s official entry-level program for children aged 5 to 9. It provides a fun, inclusive, and action-packed environment where kids of all abilities learn the basics of cricket through game-based activities. The program uses safe equipment like plastic bats and rubber balls to ensure a secure environment for all participants. It’s the perfect first step for kids looking to progress into junior competitions or just have a bit of fun.

Junior Competitions (U10's and up) - boys, girls, mixed

Games on Saturday or Sunday mornings
Training on weeknights (times TBC)
Early October 2025 – Early March 2026
(Break over the school holidays)

Junior cricket competitions begin from Under 10s (typically Year 4). Junior cricket is structured into three stages, each designed to build confidence, skills, and game understanding as kids grow.

Stage 1

  • Games are played on smaller pitches with softer balls.

  • All players get a turn to bat, bowl, and field

  • Batters face a set number of balls; dismissals result in runs added to the opposing team’s score—but the batter keeps batting (so don't worry about a golden duck - just keep on batting).

  • Everyone bowls a set number of overs

  • Field placements rotate every over.

  • Focus: Skill development, fun, and confidence.

Stage 2

  • Played on a longer pitch with a harder ball and more realistic match conditions.

  • Dismissals count—when you’re out, you’re out—encouraging players to value their wicket and respect the game.

  • Focus: Game tactics, teamwork, running between wickets, and field placement.

Stage 3

  • Played under traditional cricket rules on full-sized pitches.

  • Uses a standard senior-weight hard ball (156g for boys, 142g for girls).

  • Focus: Strategy, consistency, and match awareness, preparing players for senior or club cricket.
